Decking Your Dining Table For The Holidays!

12 Days of LUX has finally arrived, and what better way to kick it off than with a guide to decking out your dining table for holiday gatherings? From tablecloths, to cutlery, to centrepieces, decorating your table for the season’s celebrations can be overwhelming at times. Never fear—LUX Decor’s very own Dasha Zoeger and Katrina Weary joined forces in the first video of our series to show you how to get your table setting ready for your guests. With over five years in the design department, Dasha and Katrina are more than qualified to give you the insider secrets for a chic, Christmas-ready dining table.

Step 1: Neutral base

It’s always nice to start with a clean, white table cloth. Starting with something neutral gives you more options later to play around and be creative with the other elements of your table setting. Why buy a coloured or patterned tablecloth when you can add onto a white one as you please? White is versatile for all seasons and celebrations.

Placing a neutral toned runner down the centre of your setting can warm things up and help give your table a nice, natural feel. It pulls everything together and adds a sophisticated, fancy element without taking away from the homey feeling that holidays are all about.

White plates also keep the base of your dining table neutral, but you can still spice things up by layering them to add dimension.

Step 2: Hottest trends

Incorporating the latest design trends on your dining table will help put a fresh, modern spin on traditional holiday decor.

Having colour on your table is a must this season. Gold cutlery is hot right now and will help highlight a festive mood.

Adding contrast to the table can be done easily by placing some plaid napkins at each place setting. Plaid is back big time in pillows and curtains—so, why not bring it onto your table, too? Black and white plaid with a gold threading will make your gold cutlery pop even more.

Step 3: Glamorous greenery

Dressing your table with some beautiful greenery can bring your holiday gathering to a whole new level.

For the first installation in our 12 Days of Lux video series, Westmount Florist joined the LUX team to teach us how to integrate real greenery into a centrepiece.

Whether you decide to use fresh eucalyptus and cedar stems, or go with pre-arranged, artificial bundles (like we used to set our table in the video—along with some real paperwhites), greenery will have your guests in awe as they sit down to dine. You can even add bunches of seasonal holly berries to each place setting!

Step 4: Festive flare

The key is to have your dining table give off holiday vibes without getting too in-your-face with Christmas kitsch. The best way to achieve that is by adding some stylish, festive accessories to the table.

Some ornaments, decorative pillows, or even sheepskin throws can tie your table setting together in an innovative, playful way.
